Here are some ways to remove snow and ice from your iron fence.

Environmental elements can do a lot of damage to a fence. When you own an ornate metal fence, you want to prepare it for winter so that snow, ice, and fallen tree branches don’t wreak havoc. Here are some ways to remove snow and ice from your iron fence.

Find a Deicing Alternative to Remove Ice and Snow from Your Iron Fence

Removing snow and ice from your driveways is essential for cars and walking—however, deicers and salt cause corrosion and rust on an iron fence. Sand is an ideal deicer to remove snow and ice from your iron fence. Sun exposure melts ice, and excess sand is easy to brush off any fence parts. Coffee grinds are also an ideal alternative. Like sand, coffee grinds offer a gritty grip for walking and help melt the ice. If you use coffee grinds or sand, spread them across the top of the ice or snow. When the sun beams after a storm, the tiny pieces will quickly heat up and melt away from the fence.

Ground Heaters

It’s best for the sharp edges of a shovel not to scratch your fence material. The scratches can cause your fence to hold less aesthetic value and value overall. Additionally, when spring comes back around, you will have to spend more time restoring the scratches. Try laying a heated blanket on areas surrounding the fence. Once turned on, the blanket will heat up and melt away the snow and ice immediately. After clearing large portions of the fence, you can slide the blanket under the fence to thaw the ground and prevent ice accumulation. If snow or ice is directly on the fence, consider purchasing a heat gun that will blast out heat.

Fence Netting Mesh

A complete fence cover is another way to protect your iron fence from snow and ice during the winter. A black mesh covers the fence but provides aesthetic appeal. A fence netting mesh can drape over the fencing to block ice and snow with a protective layer. Mesh netting securely attaches to the fencing so that high winds won’t expose your iron fence. Also, you can use a broom to brush the debris away and clear the fence if snow and ice accumulate on the fence. When spring returns, you can remove the netting from your iron fence to still see it in pristine condition.
